Harper Lee dies
Being reported that the author of To Kill A Mockingbird has died

Funny, I thought Truman CAPOTE died years ago

A beautiful book. Go Set a Watchmen is good too. A sad day.

Re: Harper Lee dies
Surely one of the most overrated books ever. Can't believe Truman Capote wrote it.

Re: Harper Lee dies
She wrote Go Set A Watchman and publishers bought it but her editor decided the earlier life of the characters would be more interesting so it morphed into To Kill A Mockingbird.

As I implied in the opening post it has long been suspected that Watchman was her work and Mockingbird was developed and written by her childhood friend and associate Mr Truman CAPOTE.

Re: Harper Lee dies
Wasn't Go Set a Watchman actually written before To Kill a Mockingbird?

Great first novel. Not read the new one. Disappointing innings in reality - just needed a couple of boundaries then avoid dots in the last over.

Did Truman Capote write most of it?

I'm sure if he had Ms Lee would have admitted it surely?

Nurse....in the same way as Steinbeck novels, has it's place to articulate turbulent times in that perverse land of a million contradictions and problems.

Has a cameo in all of the movies and even popped up on the Big Bang theory. Sad loss

No, I trust my son's judgment. We are similar in our low tolerance threshold for worthiness ;-)

Read the book Nurse, well worth the effort

Re: Harper Lee dies
My son said the book is turgid.

I've only seen a theatre adaptation of it. Thought it was ok.

To Kill A Mocking Bird was a staple of every English O Level/GSCE or A level. Fine work and of real gravitas on key social issues and prejudices. RIP

If she had written One sentence and it was a great one, it would be a complete body of work...

...which I no doubt would have enjoyed.

Re: Harper Lee dies
Apparently, her third book will be published posthumously.

Nobody is sure what its about yet, but the working title was "It was the nigg*r what done it"

Enjoyed her work?
